"Vikings" return to Worcester

Updated: Jan 14, 2021

Exsel Group’s Worcester-based precision engineering and manufacturing division, Exsel Design & Integration, is delighted to support BAE SYSTEMS HÄGGLUNDS with the upgrade of Royal Marines “Viking” BvS10’s existing Troop Carrier Variant (TCV) vehicles into Command Variant (CV) vehicles, increasing the operational capacity of the fleet.

Referred to as the All-Terrain Vehicle (Protected) – ATV(P), the Viking is a fully amphibious (propelled fully-loaded using its tracks) and armoured vehicle that has seen service globally in places such as the Arctic and Afghanistan. It is very adaptable in its roles and is capable of being transported under a CH-47-Chinook helicopter. Being relatively low weight and with full-length rubber tracks it benefits from low ground pressure and can travel over unstable surfaces such as snow and sand.

Exsel Design & Integration originally fitted out these Vikings in 2006 and have been supporting them ever since. This latest round of improvements will extend the serviceable life of the platform as well as upgrading and integrating power and communications systems to evolve the platform from TCV to CV capabilities.

Mike Moloney, Director at Exsel Design & Integration, said “having supported this vehicle since its initial fit out, it’s always a pleasure to welcome this versatile platform back into our care and to ensure that, by providing the systems enhancements required in today’s theatre, the Viking will continue to support the UK MOD for a number of years to come.”
