Exsel Design & Integration helping ATDU with fixed mast integration

Exsel Design & Integration is delighted to work with the Armoured Trials and Development Unit (ADTU) to integrate a light weight fixed observation mast onto a Jackal as part of their Light Cav Sprint. This is another example of our ability to work closely with both defence and commercial clients to rapidly prototype products for cost-effective solutions.

The ADTU, which is part of the British Army, comprises specialists from within the Royal Armoured Corps (RAC) and Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers (REME). As a unit, it carries out user trials and develops systems to improve armoured platforms and to make sure that the best equipment is available.

The mast is capable of supporting up to 20kg of interchangeable masthead payloads can be lifted up to 6m quickly and quietly using pneumatic powered mast controls.

"Vikings" return to Worcester

Exsel Group’s Worcester-based precision engineering & manufacturing division, Exsel Design & Integration, is delighted to support BAE SYSTEMS HÄGGLUNDS with the upgrade of Royal Marines “Viking” BvS10’s existing Troop Carrier Variant (TCV) vehicles into Command Variant (CV) vehicles, increasing the operational capacity of the fleet.

Referred to as the All-Terrain Vehicle (Protected) – ATV(P), the Viking is a fully amphibious (propelled fully-loaded using its tracks) and armoured vehicle that has seen service globally in places such as the Arctic and Afghanistan. It is very adaptable in its roles and is capable of being transported under a CH-47-Chinook helicopter. Being relatively low weight and with full-length rubber tracks it benefits from low ground pressure and can travel over unstable surfaces such as snow and sand.

Exsel Design & Integration originally fitted out these Vikings in 2006 and have been supporting them ever since. This latest round of improvements will extend the serviceable life of the platform as well as upgrading and integrating power and communications systems to evolve the platform from TCV to CV capabilities.

Mike Moloney, Director at Exsel Design & Integration, said “having supported this vehicle since its initial fit out, it’s always a pleasure to welcome this versatile platform back into our care and to ensure that, by providing the systems enhancements required in today’s theatre, the Viking will continue to support the UK MOD for a number of years to come.”

Exsel Design & Integration

Exsel Design & Integration’s precision engineering & manufacturing facility, based in Worcester, provides innovative design and build, certification and installation of electromechanical, communications and training systems into mobile and containerised platforms for rapid deployment and severe environment applications. We are able to support, maintain and modify all mobile platforms; such as Mercedes Benz, Land Rover, MAN, IVECO, BAE Hagglunds and Navistar, and with state-of-the-art facilities and subject matter experts on hand we are also well placed to deal with large scale blast & ballistic manufacturing and fabrication.

A very successful show

The Exsel Group exhibited at this year's Three Counties Defence & Security Expo, held at the Three Counties Show Ground in Malvern.

The focus this year was to showcase four products under two of the Group companies; Exsel Electronics and Exsel Design & Integration, and the demonstrations of the Cross Domain Security Device, as a mobile land-platform unit, together with The Cube attracted a lot of interest.

James Marment, Director at Exsel Group said “We were delighted to attend the Three Counties Defence & Security Expo 2019. It was very well attended and we were able to forge relationships with new companies, discovering exciting new business opportunities, as well as catch up with long-standing existing clients. Exhibiting at the show this year meant we could stand out from the crowd and show off our brand and our products successfully and we are looking forward to exhibiting again next year.”

It was good to see the show go from strength to strength and the Exsel Group stand was busy all day long. We look forward to an even bigger event next year.
