X-STAR



X-STAR SCOUT
NEW X-STAR ANTI TANK MINE RESISTENCE ARMOURED PERSONNEL CARRIER RANGE
The X-STAR Scout is a lightweight protected mobility platform designed to support reconnaissance, patrol, internal security and specialist operational roles where mobility, survivability and low visual signature are critical.
Developed around a compact V-shaped hull architecture and highly mobile automotive platform, X-STAR Scout draws upon the operational lessons and proven utility demonstrated by legacy scout and protected patrol vehicle concepts, including platforms such as the RG32 Scout, whilst applying updated automotive, survivability and integration approaches.

The platform is intended to provide operators with a balance between protection, agility and operational adaptability without the size and logistical burden associated with larger protected vehicles.

X-STAR Scout can also be configured to supported low-signature mobility and reducing visual distinction from civilian or locally operated vehicle fleets where mission profiles require a more discreet operational presence.

RG31/RG32
PROTECTED MOBILITY HERITAGE




The RG31 and RG32 vehicle families represent a significant chapter in the evolution of modern protected mobility and form part of a heritage closely connected to the wider Exsel Group through longstanding relationships with Trading Force Limited (TFL) and TFM (Pty) Ltd.

During the 1970s and 1980s, TFM was at the forefront of developing mine-protected vehicle technology in South Africa, building upon operational lessons learned in hostile and mine-threat environments. This work contributed to the emergence of the V-shaped hull concept that would become a defining feature of protected mobility vehicles worldwide. TFM’s vehicle development programmes included the Casspir and later the RG-series vehicles, helping establish design principles that continue to influence military vehicle survivability today.

The RG31 emerged as one of the most successful mine-resistant 4x4 platforms of its generation. Designed to combine mobility, blast protection and operational practicality, the vehicle was adopted by military, peacekeeping and security organisations worldwide, including the United Nations, United States and allied defence forces. Its proven survivability, maintainability and adaptability made it a benchmark for protected patrol and troop transport operations.

Building on these foundations, the RG32 Scout was developed as a lighter protected patrol and reconnaissance platform. The RG32 retained the survivability philosophy established by earlier mine-protected vehicles while providing improved mobility, reduced logistical burden and greater flexibility for reconnaissance, border security and expeditionary operations.
​
Together, the RG31 and RG32 demonstrate the progression of protected mobility from dedicated mine-protected troop carriers towards more versatile multi-role platforms. Their legacy continues to influence modern vehicle design through principles of blast protection, crew survivability, mobility, mission integration and operational sustainability. Through its historical links to TFM and the wider RG vehicle development story, Exsel maintains a heritage rooted in some of the most influential protected mobility programmes ever developed.
CASSPIR
MINE PROTECTED VEHICLE HERITAGE

The Casspir is widely recognised as one of the most influential mine-protected vehicles ever developed and represents a cornerstone of the protected mobility heritage associated with TFM (Pty) Ltd and the wider lineage connected to Exsel Group.

Developed during the late 1970s and entering service in the early 1980s, the Casspir was designed to address the challenges of operating in environments where mines and explosive threats represented a constant risk. TFM played a pioneering role in advancing mine-protected vehicle concepts during this period, helping establish engineering principles that would later become standard across the global protected mobility sector.
​
The vehicle introduced a combination of high ground clearance, a blast-deflecting V-shaped hull and a robust automotive architecture designed to maximise occupant survivability while maintaining mobility across difficult terrain. These innovations proved highly successful in operational service and established a design philosophy that influenced generations of protected vehicles that followed.
​
The Casspir achieved widespread international recognition for its ability to transport personnel safely through high-threat environments while remaining relatively simple to maintain and sustain in austere conditions. The vehicle’s success demonstrated that survivability, mobility and operational practicality could be combined within a single platform, creating a blueprint for future protected mobility programmes.
Many of the principles first demonstrated by the Casspir can be seen in later vehicles such as the RG-series family, including the RG31 and RG32 Scout. These platforms evolved the original mine-protection concepts while introducing new levels of mobility, mission flexibility and integration capability.

Today, the Casspir remains an important reference point in the development of modern MRAP and protected patrol vehicle design. Its legacy continues to influence survivability engineering, blast protection strategies, vehicle integration programmes and platform upgrade activity worldwide. Through Exsel’s historical connection to TFM and the wider protected mobility ecosystem, this heritage remains an important part of the group’s understanding of vehicle survivability, operational support and future mobility development.
